| A brief history of the RCCC |
|
The first official River Cities Corvette Club meeting was held on May 2, 1993. There were 40 charter members, 8 of whom are still members of RCCC. We currently have about 200 members, and the club is still growing! Our first meeting location was at a pizza parlor, but we outgrew that location and eventually ended up at Podnuh's Barbeque, 9030 Mansfield Road in Shreveport. The club has many great sponsor's who give superb support to RCCC. Our official club sponsor is Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City Louisiana. River Cities Corvette Club is a "not for profit" organization. We are very proud of our monthly newsletter entitled: Classic Glass. Newsletter Editor Brian Anderson works very hard to get the newsletter out each month, and makes certain that ours is the envy of many other clubs. RCCC also provides our Classic Glass newsletter in pdf electronic format. River Cities Corvette Club has a board consisting of seven officers. The officers are elected by the members in November each year. Our board members serve a maximum two years in their office. RCCC has an official set of By-Laws. River Cities Corvette Club is an active and fun organization. We are totally dedicated to our members and the passion of our Corvettes. Many people ask, "what's so special about Corvettes?" The answer for anyone that has ever owned one is: "The thrill is there every time you get behind the wheel!" River Cities Corvette Club has monthly dinner cruises and many other fun events. We have a club Activities Director, Sandra Kunce, who coordinates our overall activities and many individual members volunteer to host a major activity at their homes or coordinate an activity at another venue. Many RCCC members also attend shows and other Corvette events in supporting clubs in other cities. The Lone Star Classic in Dallas, the October Weekend in Eureka Springs Arkansas, and the great show in Hot Springs Arkansas are among our club favorites. River Cities Corvette Club tries to maintain a very close relationship with the other clubs in Louisiana, and the entire region. Several RCCC members are also members of other Corvette clubs and we have assisted in founding clubs in other cities. The more the merrier.... Many of our club members have visited the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, bought bricks at the museum, and toured the Corvette plant (or picked up their new cars) at the plant in Bowling Green Kentucky (a.k.a. "Corvette Heaven"). RCCC owns a brick at the National Corvette Museum. Many members of RCCC also participate in parades and other local events. River Cities Corvette Club has an annual Christmas party which begins with dinner and usually ends in total mayhem with the gift exchange. We also have an annual Halloween party that is even more hilarious than the Christmas party. Fish fries are also a club favorite, and we have some excellent chefs. River Cities Corvette Revue is our annual show, and the highlight of our year. Club member Ida Williams is our show coordinator. Ida works tirelessly making certain that we have a bigger and better show each year. Our show has grown from humble beginnings in 1996 to a real first class Corvette event. We owe special thanks to Ida and the other great volunteers who assist her with the show. The Revue is a real total club effort, and most of the club contributes at one level or another. |
