Santa Fun run Print E-mail

This year's Santa Fun Run was a HUGE success! Eighty-five (85) classic, sports and antique vehicles from the local car clubs participated in what was labeled as the largest participation yet ... complete with police escorts (sirens, lights and all)!

Our first stop was Family Services Center in Bossier (next to the State Trooper's office on Industrial) where we dropped off tons of toys for the foster children. After MANY Thank You's from the Director of Family Services and their staff (they REALLY appreciated what we did), then it was off to Operation Santa Claus at Clear Channel Radio on Pines Road ... clear across town via I-220. It was an awesome sight, seeing the line of cars tooling down the interstate. When we arrived at Clear Channel, representatives from all the law enforcement agencies and the local firefighters were on hand to help us unload the gifts and toys we had brought. They, too, were extremely appreciative for our efforts and contributions.

Then, it was off to our final stop ... the Shreveport / Bossier Rescue Mission. The Rescue Mission, in the past, has primarily helped the homeless men in our area ... but it has expanded and opened their doors to include homeless women and children ... so their needs are very different than in year's past. As we entered the Mission, you could see several young children playing in the Mission's playground and doing things children do ... along with their mothers being close by. After "Thank You's" and a prayer from the Mission's Reverend (also the Director), hot dogs, chips and drinks were enjoyed by all ... compliments from the staff and residents of the Rescue Mission.

I honestly believe this Santa Fun Run made each of us appreciate what we have ... not the material things, but the family & friends we "take for granted each and everyday" ... in that respect, we are all truly rich!

Make it a point next year to participate ... it only took about three hours (you can spare three hours out of a "busy" Saturday) ... I guarantee, you will be truly touched and humbled ... Plus it will kick off the season with a bang.
